Where to Network in December – Meetups, Conferences, and More

Each month All Hands will share a post of events from around Taiwan. These events will span networking, professional learning, community gatherings, hiring, seminars, happy hours, and more. This will be a living list and is by no means comprehensive. If you know of a great event that should be included, please send us a message to let us know.


*Unless noted, most of these events are in English, but we have not attended all of these series before. You should look into the event if you have any language concerns.


December Events

12/1TheH.E.Rtiquette Affair – The H.E.Rtiquette affair is the first ever hair, beauty, and health experience for black/ brown women to be held in Taipei! Includes fashion show, makeup workshop, yoga class and more. (Free)


12/1Insights on the future of running clinical trials with PRA Health Sciences – The event will include an overview of PRA Health Sciences along with industry experts discussing the future of clinical trials and the integration of big data to successfully deliver clinical trials. Afternoon tea and light food will be served. (Free)


12/1Bakunawa: Taipei Workshop Pt. 1 with Oomph – For the Taiwan edition of Bakunawa, BuwanBuwan Collective will be hosting a free lecture event that focuses on the exploration and exchange of ideas, strategies, and experiences between some of Taiwan and Manila’s music creators. (Workshop is free; Music event after is NT$300)


12/2Culture and Blockchain Series 2 – International Forum on Blockchain Ecosystem at C-Lab – Three presenters will discuss new applications of blockchain including, as an example, the use of blockchain technologies in contemporary art. NOTE: This event page and accompany Google Form are all in Chinese, but I have it on good faith that at least one of the presentations will be in English and the discussion will be in English. (Free, should register in advance)


12/3Global Unicorn’s Cross-Border Expansion: Fireside Chat w/Uber and Airbnb by Anchor Taiwan – How do global unicorn startups manage cross-border teams and enter new markets? Speakers from two of the most valuable private companies in the world, Uber and Airbnb will share meaningful insights and connections. (NT$300 includes refreshments)


12/3-7Techstars Startup Week Taiwan – A week long series of conferences and workshops for startups and aspiring entrepreneurs. Each day and session can be attended individually, with lots of international speakers participating. (Free with online pre-registration – link is at the top right of the Schedule page)


12/7-8Fintech Taipei – The largest fintech exhibition in Taiwan, featuring more than 200 exhibitors and many foreign presenters. Participating companies span large multinationals, recent unicorns, universities and more. (Free with registration)


12/7Innovex Mini Salon & Demo Pitch – InnoVEX @ Startup Week aims to foster cooperation between startups & corporates to explore how corporates can encourage internal & embrace external innovation, as well as how they can work with startups. Join to learn and network with future partners! (Free, presentations are probably in Chinese)


12/7GitLab: UX in the Open – This talk looks at how GitLab’s navigation needs to evolve to keep pace. We will cover the trials, tribulations, and pitfalls of completely redesigning a product’s navigation in an open source environment. (Free)


12/7Agile Development in Consumer Electronics – This presentation is about making the case for Agile development, explaining its basic fundamentals, and how it has been implemented within Logitech on a real case study. (Free with advanced registration)


12/8How to Design Your Networking? with TGM – *NOTE – You must first request membership to the Taiwanese Global Mobility FB group to access this event.* TGM is a non-profit club offering networking soft skills workshops to help people understand the process of networking. Through the workshop, you will learn to maximize the results of the time you invest in networking. (Free, but you must join the private FB group)


12/8Meet the Anchors Nov Cohort Sendoff – Anchor Taiwan’s Winter 2018 program is approaching the end, but this is just the beginning of new ventures and new chapters! On the eve of our members’ departures, we are calling a gathering to celebrate growth, reflections and friendships. Join us to send our Anchors off with an evening to remember. (Cash bar)


12/9Start with One Hour of Code with Women Who Code Taipei – The theme for the 2018 Hour of Code is creativity. We want to promote and celebrate computer science as a medium for creativity and creation, breaking another stereotype that computer science is dry and just about crunching data. (Free)


12/10Something New, Something from the Heart by Design for Taiwan – An English-language design lecture and workshop co-hosted by SwipeSense co-founder Yuri Frank Maxi Malina and Sproutel founder Aaron Jay Horowitz. (NT$350, NT$500 for ticket and interpreter headset)


12/10EMBA – Global MBA Coffee Chat – Appointment-only sessions are available to learn about this top international EMBA program co-hosted by London Business School, HKU Business School, and Columbia Business School. (Free, confirm by email in advance)


12/11-14Forbes Global Blockchain Summit & Economic Forum – Global blockchain summit and exhibition co-sponsored by Forbes. (NT$500)


12/11Tricky Talks: The Holiday Event – Features a discussion with Mr. Ian Chang, Master Blender and Head of R&D at Kavalan, along with hosts Kathy Cheng of Tricky Taipei and Chris Horton, Taipei-based contributor to The New York Times. (Early tickets NT$700, Full-price NT$900, includes food and drink)


12/11Winter All Chamber Happy Hour with Canadian Chamber of Commerce – Celebrate the last All-Chambers event of 2018 with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan at the Grand Hyatt Hotel’s The Residence. Spend your evening surrounded by delicious food, great people, and a gorgeous night view of Taipei. (NT$1,100 for members + guests; NT$1,300 for walk-ins; includes 3 drinks and finger foods)


12/12-13IoT in Action with Microsoft – Microsoft is doubling down on IoT, and recently announced a $5B IoT investment to drive customer value and profitability to your bottom line. Attending this event will show you how you can leverage this investment and Microsoft’s partner ecosystem to drive new IoT growth opportunities for your business. (Free with registration)


12/12MOX 3 Year Anniversary – This anniversary celebration will double as a house-warming party for MOX’s new office in Taiwan Tech Arena (TTA). The evening will begin with short talks by Sean O’Sullivan, William Bao Bean, and other guests, then move on to snacks, drinks, and the best-in-Taiwan social networking MOX is known for. (Free but registration is required)

12/13 – *SOLD OUT* Futureward Forum: Perspectives on Foreigner Employability – Join All Hands’ own John Murn and Danny Miller for this discussion of foreign employability from both the employer and job seeker points of view. (FREE with PIZZA and BEER but *must register online in advance*)


12/15-16Hacking for Humanity with Girls in Tech Taiwan – Hacking for Humanity is a global initiative that takes place in 36 cities around the globe. Join the 1st annual Taiwan Hacking for Humanity hackathon and support the cause. (Free; Event is likely to be in Chinese, but there are many English speakers in this community)


12/16December Acting Class by 自然而然劇團 Theater Naturally Connected – In this all-day workshop, Award-winning Polish actress Kate Stanislawski will teach how to use sound expressions, physical training, and emotional memory to make you more comfortable in playing various roles and to express yourself more honestly and fluently. (NT$6,000; Most web material on this is in Chinese, but the workshop will be in English)


12/16Futureward x Three Leafs Tea Tasting – FutureWard is collaborating with Three Leafs to bring you a whole new tea experience. Join for a tea tasting and learn all about local Taiwanese tea! (NT$500 at the door)


12/18Office Hours with Xiri Attorneys at FutureWard – Want to start a business, but don’t know how to register your company? Running into legal issues with your startup and don’t know what to do? Ask the experts at Xiri Attorneys during open office hours at FutureWard Central. (NT$300 for non-FutureWard members)


12/19Neighborhood Networking with the Hive Taipei – The Hive Worldwide invites you to join a drinks mixer in Da’an to meet the new Taipei team and get to know other like-minded creatives and entrepreneurs. (Free with drinks and snacks)


12/21-22International Conference on Marketing, Tourism, and Hospitality by New York Events List – The conference aims at connecting with academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, industry practitioners and other interested people in the field of marketing, consumer-behavior, tourism, and hospitality. (NT$600)


12/22-23Winter 2018 GLO Leadership Training Conference at NTU – GLO brings together those with a proven track record of service and leadership in the community so you’ll be learning with like-minded student leaders. GLO’s two-day leadership accelerator will make your leadership more effective at transforming your clubs or community. (NT$2,500-2,800; I believe this conference is only for students)
